Prayer and Fasting
Modern medicine confirms the health benefits of physician-supervised fasting. For Christians, the Bible is filled with stories about prayer and fasting. Moses, Elijah, Jesus Himself, and others fasted for 40 days, and right before intense spiritual assignments. Could God be calling you to fast?
There are times in our lives when we seek more of God's power than during other times. Surrendering ourselves to God by denying ourselves food can help you focus on the Holy Spirit. The longer you can separate yourself from routine and submit yourself solely to God, the deeper He can shape your heart.
Forty days isn't a magic number. You may decide to conduct a one-week fast, or a three-week fast. You may decide to do a partial fast: giving up beverages except for water, or ingesting only juices and broth.
