Cancer C.A.R.E.
Tamela Reed felt like she had been hit by a train when she learned the large lump on her chest bone was cancer.
She had just signed a lease on a commercial kitchen for her soul-food catering business. Not only that, she was the mother of a five-year-old daughter, and she was pregnant.
As she underwent treatment for multiple myeloma, the aggressive form of leukemia she had, she also went to God. She actively and persistently prayed for healing. When it seemed clear to her and her husband that she had indeed been healed, her doctor still insisted on proceeding.
The horrible year that followed changed Tamela -- and it motivated her to establish a ministry for people undergoing what she had experienced. Tamela realized that God had brought her through her awful ordeal -- and she in turn could let God use her to bring others through their pain.
That's when Cancer C.A.R.E. began.
“With the devastating effects of cancer and so many people getting it, you can see that there should be other ministries just as this one,” said Tamela.
Cancer C.A.R.E. exists to provide compassionate, spiritual, and emotional support to cancer patients, caregivers, and survivors. The ministry connects them with volunteers and community resources to provide.
Patient advocacy and information *Prescription and financial assistance *peer support *transportation to treatment *housecleaning *laundry service *tutoring *meal delivery *grocery shopping *pet walking *hospital visitation *special occasion planning (such as children’s birthday parties), among other things.
You can do something too.
You don’t have to have advanced degrees, or to have undergone cancer yourself. You do need to have a heart of compassion and a crew of volunteers ready to serve the needy.
