Disabilities Ministry

Carter is a man widely experienced in love.

No, it’s not what you think. Carter is a developmentally delayed member of Love “Em Up, a ministry to the disabled in San Diego County. Week after week, year after year, Carter is on the front lines practicing true love: putting others ahead of himself, accepting them unconditionally, serving them, and making them feel special.

“Special needs” can be an ironic misnomer. Bobby Yates, the leader of Love “Em Up and a good friend of Carter’s, knows every human being has needs, and in the eyes of God is special. It’s just that for those individuals in his ministry the needs part is more obvious.

That makes it all the more rewarding to so something for them.

If reaching out to people with disabilities is an interest of your, realize that you’re surrounded by them! “I can tell you in our region there are over four thousand adults with disabilities within twenty-five mile radius,” says Bobby. “I would bet that you have the same amount in yours.”

Bobby says you’ll need transportation, insurance, a safe, central location, lots of volunteers and funding. But “don’t let all these things bring fear or keep you from doing something,” says Bobby. “If you’ve been called, God can give you what you need.”

If this interests you, then check out specific “how-to” information here on how to start a ministry to the disabled and developmentally delayed.

Then go out and DO Something!
