Doll-Making Ministry
As she recalls her childhood, Rosemary Hernandez says, “We had some tough times.” But what stands out to her is a special Christmas Eve that brought unexpected visitors. A group arrived on her family’s doorstep with toys for her and her siblings. That evening she was given a doll for no other reason than the fact that it was Christmas and she was girl who liked dolls. The gesture meant so much to her that she held onto the doll throughout her childhood and adolescence and into adulthood.
So when Rosemary heard that her church, The Rock in San Diego, was hosting a ministry to sew dolls for children living in unstable home environments, she immediately knew she wanted to get involved.
The You are Loved Dolls Ministry sews and creates stuffed dolls that are delivered to the local police department. Police officers use the dolls to calm and comfort children when they are being removed from homes because of domestic violence.
Rosemary never forgot the gift she received that Christmas Eve years ago. When the opportunity arose for her to similarly bless a hurting child, she decided to do something to reach out and offer comfort.
