Strip Clubs/Adult Industry Outreach

Theresa Scher had no idea what she was getting into when she first started dancing in adult clubs. She just wanted some fast money.

First it was just stripping. That led to escorting, and more. The money got bigger, eventually reaching thousands of dollars a month in private sessions in Las Vegas. That was plenty enough to cover the private school fees for her son and to purchase a Corvette and designer clothes. But it couldn't buy peace in Theresa's heart.

One night the phone rang in her lonely hotel room in Las Angeles, and instead of a client, Theresa's father’s voice filled her ear: "Theresa, what are you doing to yourself?"

It was her turning point. She left the adult industry forever. Eventually she would hear about a ministry called JC’s Girls. She knew that would be her new life.

She started a chapter of JC's Girls.

She now works with other volunteers to help women who are involved in or have been involved in the adult entertainment industry. "Our purpose is to ministry to these women—at whatever stage they are in—in love, and without condemnation," said Theresa.

"Compassion is everything," said Theresa "We try to love the girls exactly where they're at because that's what Jesus would do, and we leave the convicting to the Holy Spirit."

Teams visit strip clubs and give dancers pink Bibles and a bag of goodies — and unconditional smiles. Veteran workers go to girls’ group homes to talk about the realities of the adult entertainment industry. Others write letters to escorts and prostitutes advertising on the Internet. For any woman looking for a way to exit the industry, JC’s Girls is there, providing resources and encouragement.

You can do something too.

If you’re a woman interested in starting an outreach to workers in the adult entertainment industry, check out the model of JC’s Girls here and then adapt it to your specific situation. You can make a difference. Go out and DO Something!
